2.7 Use of safer chemicals – Do the brands have a policy requiring suppliers to use the precautionary principle?

Original question as formulated in the survey: Do EICC member companies have a corporate policy that requires their suppliers to use the precautionary principle when there is inadequate information available about the hazards of materials being used by workers?

EICC self-score: chemical-red-web

EICC does not elaborate on this score, not does it formulate any position with regard to the precautionary principle (see next paragraph for definition).

GoodElectronics and ICRT score: chemical-red-web

‘When an activity raises threats of harm to human health or the environment, precautionary measures shall be taken even if some cause and effect relationships are not fully established scientifically.

This explains why GoodElectronics and ICRT see a large gap between the CSO expectations and the EICC standard.
